Upload a video to alugha

Summary

Upload a video to alugha, choose your encoding quality, enable AI transcription and metadata generation, and create your first dubbr project — all in one two-step process.

Prerequisites

Before you begin:

  • A verified alugha account (see Create and verify your alugha account)
  • A video or audio file — alugha accepts most common formats and encodes them automatically
  • Enough credits for encoding and AI features (credit costs are shown before you confirm)

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Open the Publisher

Log in to your alugha account. The Publisher is the starting point for all uploads. You can reach it from the left sidebar or by clicking Get started! on your Producer page.

2. Upload your file

Drag and drop your video file into the Upload your media area, or click it to browse your files. alugha supports video and audio files.

3. Configure video settings (Step 1 of 2)

After selecting your file, the two-step upload wizard opens. In Video settings, configure the following:

  • Language — Select the language spoken in your video. Target languages for translation can be added later in the dubbr.
  • Project Folder — Optionally assign the video to a folder for organization. You can create new folders directly from this dialog.
  • Process audio only — Toggle this on if you only need the audio track (e.g., for podcasts). This uses 0 credits for encoding.
  • Video Quality — Choose your encoding resolution: Low (540p)Medium (720p), or Regular (1080p). Higher resolutions may require an upgraded plan.

The credit cost for encoding is displayed on the right (e.g., 59 credits for 1080p). Click Next Step to continue.

4. Configure AI settings (Step 2 of 2)

In AI settings, choose which AI features to enable during upload:

  • Generate Transcript (STT) — Automatically transcribes spoken words into text segments. This is required for AI metadata generation. (e.g., 20 credits)
  • Generate metadata using AI — Automatically creates a title, description, and tags based on your video content. (e.g., 1 credit)
  • AI content disclosure — Mark this if your video contains pre-existing AI-generated visuals, audio, or other content.

The Your credits section at the bottom shows the total cost and your remaining credits after this action.

5. Create your dubbr project

Click Create Dubbr Project. Your file starts uploading and you can see the progress bar with estimated time remaining.

6. Wait for processing to finish

Once the upload is complete, you land in the dubbr. The Active jobs bar at the top shows three tasks running:

  • Process Video – Encodes your video into the selected resolution
  • Speech-To-Text – Transcribes the spoken audio into text segments
  • Generate Metadata – Creates title, description, and tags from the transcript

When all jobs show completed, click Reload now to see your video with the generated transcript in the dubbr timeline.

7. Review your video in the dubbr

Your video is now ready in the dubbr. You can play it back, review the generated transcript, and continue with the next steps: adding translations, AI voiceover, or subtitles. See Add AI translations to your video to continue.

Good to know

  • alugha supports both video and audio uploads — audio-only uploads use 0 encoding credits.
  • AI features (transcription, metadata) can be toggled off to save credits. You can always run them later from the dubbr.
  • All videos are hosted on EU-based, ISO 27001-certified servers powered by 100% green hydroelectricity.
  • Your video is distributed across a global CDN with over 100 data centers for fast playback worldwide.

Troubleshooting

If the upload fails or gets stuck:

  • Check your internet connection and reload the page.
  • Make sure your file is a supported video or audio format.
  • Try again using Chrome or Firefox.

If “Next Step” is disabled:

  • Make sure you have selected a language for your video — this field is required.

If you don’t have enough credits:

  • Disable AI features (STT, metadata) in Step 2 to reduce the credit cost.
  • Choose a lower video quality (540p uses fewer credits than 1080p).
  • Purchase additional credits from your account settings.
